Abstract

This research paper examines the framework of juvenile justice in ancient India, exploring how societal, legal, and cultural norms addressed the behavior and welfare of young individuals. Drawing from ancient texts such as the Dharmashastras, Arthashastra, and Buddhist and Jain literature, the study investigates the mechanisms for handling juvenile delinquency, rehabilitation, and societal reintegration in ancient Indian civilizations. The paper highlights the interplay of family, community, and state in shaping juvenile justice, emphasizing restorative practices over punitive measures. By analyzing historical practices in the context of modern juvenile justice principles, this study provides insights into the evolution of child welfare and justice systems in India.
